Yishun Town Sec Assemblage Art

Month of Feb and March 2018 – We have concluded Assemblage Programme with Yishun Town Sec School and the students made seven wonderful large sculptures for submission to Singapore Youth Festival 18′.

Assemblage artists; Joseph Cornell, Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Nevelson and other contemporary young artists were introduced to the students and from where they drew inspiration from.

The themes we explored are largely from the students’ personal and social experience with the world; challenges of being an overstressed student, deforestation, health issue, food scarcity, notion of beauty, nostalgia and interestingly one group decided to talk about the public damage and misuse of Ofo Bikes. We had used actual bicycle wheels for their sculpture.

A variety of materials have been used for their sculpture. Mostly found objects and some hardware materials, the students piece up their work from mind-mapping to sketches, experimentation with materials to the eventual build up of their 50cm – 120cm pieces.

This was their first time in creating 3-Dimensional artwork and many were curious to create and learn more from both instructors, Jacquelyn and Alvin. The result of their hard work, creativity, imagination and perseverance showed in their assemblages.

I do wish I would be able to work on assemblage artworks with more students and youth, exposing them to the wonderful world of 3-dimensional art!
