10, 17 April, 8, 15, 11 May 2023 – ArtStories have an NAC-AEP Approved Art Programme which will allow eligible schools to tap into funding for Art, Music, Dance, Media and Theatre programmes offered by local Artists and Arts Groups/Companies.
We started our Peranakan Tile Painting (Heritage Series) with Haig Girls Schools which was very appropriate as the school is located in the Peranakan area which offers rows and rows of heritage shophouses and cuisine.
In this programme, we learnt about Peranakan Culture, Heritage and the Symbols/Motifs that have become significant icons of Peranakan Culture. Namely, the tiles on the facade of noticeable shophouses and heritage buildings.
The students were guided on a 5-session programme from the Introduction to the technical detail of transferring the image on paper to the tile and eventually hand painting these tiles with acrylic paints.
