At Huamin Primary School, students had the exciting opportunity to learn about Peranakan culture through a hands-on art project. They studied the distinctive and colorful patterns that define Peranakan art, which blends Chinese and Malay elements into beautiful, intricate designs.
Guided by their teachers, the students then tried their hand at recreating these traditional motifs on ceramic tiles, carefully painting their chosen patterns with vibrant colors. At the end of the activity, each student proudly took home their tile, a personal piece of art that not only reflected their creativity but also deepened their understanding of Peranakan heritage.
This project allowed them to connect with Singapore’s rich cultural history while creating a lasting keepsake to remember the experience.
