Bendemeer Primary – Peranakan Tile Painting

Students at St. Andrew’s Junior School thoroughly enjoyed a creative art project that taught them about the rich and complex peranakan culture. They studied the origins of peranakan patterns and found that the distinctive fusion of Malay and Chinese influences is reflected in these colorful motifs.

By creating and painting their own tiles, the students then brought these patterns to life, expressing their creativity and developing a greater awareness of cultural history. In addition to improving their artistic abilities, this captivating practical exercise helped them have a greater understanding of the rich customs of the peranakan people. Thanks to St. Andrew’s Junior School for organizing such an enjoyable and instructive event!
