Yangzheng Primary School children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Jacquelyn’s Peranakan Tile Painting Program! Students learned about the rich past of the Peranakan community, from its intriguing fusion of Chinese, Malay, and European influences to the symbolic meanings behind traditional tile designs, during the vibrant and dynamic class that blended art with cultural education.
The pupils eagerly experimented with geometric and floral patterns, discovering how each one embodies Peranakan beauty, harmony, and custom. They meticulously painted their own tiles, combining vibrant colors and incorporating their own unique creative touches.
The young painters’ completed works, each reflecting their newfound awareness of culture and artistic expression, were proudly displayed. It was an enjoyable, practical event that gave them a genuinely memorable way to connect with Singapore’s ethnic heritage!
