13 Nov – Canberra CC held a Sports Carnival at Sembawang Primary School yesterday and I was invited to conduct a simple puppetry workshop for children. We made movable puppets and still stick puppets. It brought out the storyteller in these children as they play with their characters and moved them around freely in two hands. I am thankful for being able to share simple knowledge of the history of puppets and technique of holding stick puppets from my learning years in Indonesian Gamelan Music and Traditional Arts.
Next stop for ArtStories; we will be creating a medium-scale puppetry stage and puppets for a pre-school in December! Stay tuned!
