ArtStories was delighted to bring our Peranakan Series Programme to the curious and energetic young learners at MY WORLD @ Ang Mo Kio Preschool. In addition to creating their own versions of Peranakan Batik Fabric Art, the kids studied Peranakan history and culture! To get the desired result, we combined painting and tie-and-dye techniques! The children sang and danced to Peranakan songs, which are indigenous to Singapore, to make the program even more entertaining!

The joyful and celebratory environment was what really made this workshop unique. We believe that experiencing culture firsthand rather than merely observing it is the greatest way to absorb it. Each child created a beautiful work of wearable or displayable art that represented their interpretation of Peranakan style by the end of the program. The “mini-artisans” at MY WORLD @ Ang Mo Kio left with a masterpiece that honored the vibrant history of the Peranakans and a renewed sense of pride in their local heritage.
