Yang Zhen Primary School Peranakan Art, Watercolour Programme

Our Peranakan Art Programme kicked off this year with Yang Zheng Primary School adopting the Peranakan Kitchenware Watercolour Painting Art Programme for their Art Club students. The programme took place from the end of March to the end of May over six sessions, where students progressed from learning basic sketching techniques to mastering watercolour painting techniques before taking the initiative to create a final artwork featuring a complete Peranakan kitchenware scene paired with beautifully illustrated Peranakan food.

The students had a wonderful time experimenting with watercolours, discovering how different brushstrokes, colour blending, and layering techniques could bring their paintings to life. Every session was filled with excitement as they watched vibrant colours flow across the paper, creating unique effects and adding depth to their artwork.

It was especially rewarding to see their confidence grow as they transformed their initial sketches into colourful masterpieces, while developing a deeper appreciation for Peranakan culture through this fun, creative, and hands-on artistic journey.
