Months of July to Sept 2019 – Our 3rd programme of the year with Geylang East Home of the Aged started in July and ended on 3rd September Tuesday this week.
There were a total of 25 participants in the 8 week long programme. Some of the participants were dementia patients while some has physical difficulties. ArtStories had three/four Artist Trainers to guide the participants in a sensory Art Therapy and Art & Craft Programme.
It was amazing to see how well some of the elderly took to the more challenging and difficult art and craft forms and how easily they could express themselves with various painting and craft materials. While there were some who found it tougher to create the art, the centre had also involved their staff members to interact and guide the seniors, thereby making the participants feel more confident and at ease. It was a good collaboration between the centre and ArtStories and there were a lot of learning points I had taken back from the centre whilst working in a bigger group and with more staff members to help out. This would help me in preparing and organising more suitable programmes for dementia/physically enabled participants.
The eight craft work we had worked on are;
- Mandala Art Drawing
- Art Therapy Session 1 – Touch and Feel
- Art Therapy Session 2 – Creation of Clay Figurine
- Acrylic Pour Painting
- Tie Dye Tote bag
- Mug and Plate Marbling
- Art Therapy Session 3 – Smelling and Sensing
Please feel free to enjoy the photos and artwork created by the seniors! We are so proud of their achievement!
