Art and Craft Programme with St Luke’s Eldercare (Telok Blangah)

We conducting an engaging 8-week Art & Craft Therapy Programme with St Luke’s Eldercare, designed to encourage seniors receiving care for mild dementia to explore their creativity, express themselves, and experience the joy of creating meaningful works of art.

Throughout the programme, the seniors were guided through a structured, step-by-step creative journey that emphasised exploration, experimentation, and personal expression. For the canvas painting project, participants began with brainstorming ideas, developing initial sketches, planning their compositions, and experimenting with different painting techniques before progressing to their final canvas masterpieces. This progressive approach encouraged them to make creative decisions, build confidence, and take pride in each stage of their artistic development.

The programme also introduced the seniors to the versatile world of clay art. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, they learned various clay techniques, explored moulding and shaping forms, and gradually developed their own pictorial clay artworks. By combining both two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements, the seniors were able to experiment with texture, depth, form, and composition to create unique and expressive pieces.

Beyond the artistic outcomes, the programme placed great emphasis on meaningful interaction, social engagement, and a supportive learning environment. Each session provided opportunities for the seniors to share ideas, explore new possibilities, exercise their creativity, and connect with others through the process of making art.

It was heartwarming to witness their progress, enthusiasm, and sense of accomplishment as they transformed their initial ideas into finished artworks. This 8-week journey demonstrated how a carefully guided and progressive art programme can provide seniors with opportunities for creative expression, personal fulfilment, and meaningful engagement, making every artwork a reflection of their imagination, effort, and individuality.
